PTCL, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, has confronted an outage in the Sea-Me-We 3 ("South East Asia Middle East Western Europe 3") submarine cable. PTCL assured that their Submarine Cable Department is taking the appropriate measures to troubleshoot this occurance. Despite the assurance they have indicated their reservations in commiting an exact date for the resolution of this issue which is causing severe problems to our customers and us as well.

As you must be already aware of these issues via various mediums that the Internet Traffic in Pakistan is presently affected due to this outage. We are proactively involved in assuring that the resolution of this problem is not only expedited but our customers are also updated regarding it in a timely manner. An update from PTCL in this regard is awaited. PTCL has announced that due to do some maintenance work on country’s only undersea fiber link, there will be a planned interruption / outage on SEAMEWE-3 for at least 2 weeks from October 5’ 2003 to October 20’ 2003. During outage, PTCL would arrange additional satellite link as a backup. This link would be operational by October 01, 2003, and hopefully it will minimize the effect of this outage.
